George Hamman and wife Catherine (also born Hamman) married in Shenandoah Co. Va. 4 July 1804 and lived in Rockingham Co. Va. until 1826 when they moved to Richland Co. Ohio. According to the Centennial Biographical History of Richland County (in article on their son Thomas) they had 14 children.
George was born 10 Aug. 1780 in Loudoun Co. Va. son of Johannes and Maria Wildanger Hamman. Catherine was born in Shenandoah Co. Va. 9 Mar. 1786, daughter of Paul and Franey Hamman. They were probably distantly related since both Hamman lines can be traced back to the German village of Lachen, near Neustadt in the Palatinate. George' grandfather, Thomas, emigrated in 1730 and Paul's father, Johann Jacob in 1749. Thomas settled in what is now Bucks Co. Pa. and Johann Jacob in York Co. Pa. Some of their children eventually wound up near each other in Shenandoah County, Va.
