Hello, Brian. Yes, that George William Hamman is the same man who married my grandmother, Anna Agnes Whittington Hamman. All the information I have has him born in 1893, the same year as my grandmother, not 1890. But I'm sure you know by now how all dates are not accurate in this world of genealogy. At any rate they were wonderful parents and grandparents, etc., etc. - end of commercial. Anna Agnes Hamman died in 1995 in Eureka, Ks, and is buried in Lincoln Cemetery, Lebo Ks, with her husband.
I have not personally done any sleuthing on this side of my family tree, even though I am emotionally attached to it. I just haven't gotten time to pursue it yet. And I don't know the answer to the question about your question about Elizabeth Hamman Zahn's parents. But I do have some information put together by genealogist James (Jimmy) Hamman at Prairie Village, Ks, around 1977. In it he lists children of George and Helena Hammann, among them my GGF Philip Hamman, and his sister Elizabeth Hamman, b. Oct 17, 1850, d. Feb 16, 1935. She is listed as marrying Adam Brust, however, which is inconsistent with the information on your Elizabeth (marrying John Zahn in 1864). Her aunt, also named Elizabeth, came over from Germany to New York, on the ship Havre, via Havre, France, in 1834, along with my GGGF George Hamman. She was 16 years old at the time, so she would have been born around 1818. That date is a little early for her to have been married in 1864, but still possible. Do you know the birth date of your GGGM?
I took photos of the Hamman church and some of the markers while my mother and I were there - I think 3 years ago. I'd be glad to send a set if you want them.
Do you have the article "Pike's Past" by Jim Henry, writen ca. 1977? It tells about the building of the church and some history. Fred Zahn is listed as one of the church's charter members.
I'm glad to hear from an actual Zahn!! I'd be happy to share anything you want that I might happen to have.
Dick Edwards (Hamman and Whittington at heart)
