I now have fairly conclusive evidence that Franey, wife of Paul Hamman was Franey Groh, daughter of Matthias Groh of Salem PA (present-day Lebanon Co.). Some of the Groh family moved to what is now Washington Co. MD in the early 1770s and lived near Peter and Philip Hamman, Paul's older brothers. In 1780, Paul and Franey Hamman sold her interest in her father's land in PA. Paul and Franey apparently married in MD and then went to Shenandoah Co. VA where his brother, George Michael was already living.
