High Ann,
I saw your follow up message re Hammans in the UK. I would be most interested in the Hammans family in Knutsford. I have compiled a large database of Hammans/ons/onds etc in an attempt to trace the origin of a William Hammans who was born, I think, in about 1770 and who died in Uxbridge Middx. in 1840 aged 70?.I wonder if you can provide a clue? In any case it would be interesting to see if the branch of Hammans you have identified tie in with any of the Hammans trees I have compiled. One of these goes back "with question marks" to 1708. None of my records refer to Knutsford although I have identified a number of Hammans/ons in Cheshire. My earliest record is John Hammons in 1839 in Cheadle. Other Hammons/ond etc are in Altringham with a later batch of Hammans in the 1940's and 1960,s. in Berkenhead and Stockport.I have these later Hammans tied in to one of my Trees hence the interest.
Love to hear from you.
Brian
