Your cousins need your help!

No blood involved! Absolutely painless! Meet wonderful and interesting new people! Ok, maybe some of us aren’t exactly exciting, but we are part of the greater Hammond family and need your help.

Specifically, we need DNA samples of as many males as possible with the surname Hammond, Hammonds, Hamond, Hamonds, Hamon, Hamons, Hamman, or Hammans. A number of us have been trying for many years to knock down the brick wall we have hit when we try to trace our Hammond ancestors back to the mid-1700s and earlier, and a Hammond surname DNA study may be our last chance to find where we belong in Hammond history. You may reason that you do not benefit from a Hammond surname DNA study because you know who your ancestors are. Wonderful! A lot of us are not so fortunate and need a little help from our more fortunate cousins. Some of your ancestors’ descendants are trying really hard to find those same ancestors.

If you are a Hammond, Hammonds, Hamond, Hamonds, Hamon, Hamons, Hamman, or Hammans male, please join our project at by clicking on “Join This Group” on the left side of the home page. If you are hesitating because of privacy concerns, please read Family Tree’s FAQ which covers such concerns. If you want to pay for the cost of a test kit for someone else, there are easy billing procedures in place that allow the test kit to be sent to the test participant with billing to a different name and address.

Nela T. Brown,
Administrator of the Hammond Surname DNA Study
