I have been trying with no luck to locate Andrew Hamman's family. Andrew was living in the Schlesvig-Holstein area when war broke out between Prussia, Austria, and Denmark for control of this area. His father and 4 of his brothers were killed in this war. Andrew ran away from home to escape German conscription -- he was only ten. He became a seaman before finally immigrating to the U.S. in 1871 at 17 years old. He married Alberta Virginia Stearns in Lake County, Florida. One of their children, Zuleika LaCosta Hamman, was my husband's grandmother, Andrew was his grandfather. Does anyone have any information about this family?
