My father's name was Roy HAMMES Gehris.
His mother's name was Amelia A HAMMES.
Her great grandparents were:
Johannes HAMMES (b. 22 Feb 1760 - d. 15 Sep 1851), and
Catharina Wilhelmina BERGER (b. Jun 1768 - d. 31 Aug 1837).
They arrived at Philadelphia on the ship Columbia, Captain William Maley (unknown date, some report the year as 1775!).
There were two HAMMES families on the ship:
1./ Wilhelm Hammes, C. Margreta Hammes, Abramina Hammes, Gottlieb Hammes, C.W. Hammes, John Peter Hammes & Abraham Eicher;
2./ Johannes Hammes, Wilhelmina Hammes, Carlina hammes, Lowisa Hammes, Wilhelm Hammes, Abraham Berger & Arnold Crau.
Can you confirm that these families came from in the Rhineland-Palatinate area?
I live in Berks County, PA.
