The name Hammes is very common at a special region of the Hunsrueck/Rhineland-Palatinate.
A relative of me Surname: "Etzkorn" went to Wilson, Wi in 1880, some of his descendants live in Sheboygan today. Mayby there have been more families from my village (or neighbour villages in Germany emigrating to Wilson or Sheboygan in the 19th century - perhaps a Hammes family. If you have more information about Anton Hammes I can search for him in my papers about the families of my home region

Greetings from Germany
Baerbel Hammes
