that's what I suspected. Your ancestors definitly come from my home region. There a lot of Hammes families in that region and the birthplace and date of his wife may help to find the right family. I know Halsenbach and I've got an idea which villages may by interesting. Even the 1820th mayby ok. The family books were I can look up the data ends at about 1800 to 1820 so I may be lucky.
I will try to search your ancestor, but it will take a bit time. I am living in Frankfurt and therefor I have to wait until my next visit to my parents
