Mary,I am also working on the Hammes line for my mother-in-law, Theresa Marie Hammes, born in Calumet, Houghton, Michigan. Her father was Andrew Joseph Hammes. Andrew's father was Joseph Hammes born in Prussia and
Joseph's wife was Cresentia Wittman and all her aka's that you mentioned. I have not found his parents yet but will continue looking.

I've been playing on the ancetral web sites all day for the first time, trying to get myself better acquainted with the computer. I was trying to find Joseph's and Cresentia's children's names and information. In the 1880 census I got at the family history center in Mesa, Arizona, they had children, Anton then 12, Joseph 10, Annie 8, Peter 4. Anton died I believe at the age of 22 in the mine.

In the 1909 Census Index I found Peter again, new children Philip age 19, Andrew age 15, Clemence age 13 and Grace age 9. This 1909 Census shows Joseph Hammes born March 1847 in Germany.

Please email me back at the above address if you get this anytime soon.

What is your relationship to Joseph Hammes?
Please email back. Thank you. Laurie Emelity 3/16/01
