Fred,
The Hammes name goes back to Luxembourg but there were migrations of Hammes families to Minnesota, Iowa and Kansas.
I don't really know where my Hammes settled here in the U.S., though the other surnames I'm searching do come from Keokuk County and the Sigourney area.
I don't know of a Nick or Peter Hammes in my line. I have a Barbara Hammes married Nov. 20, 1833 to Michael Mersch.
