My great-grandfather was Fred Hamnett. Maybe he is the Fred you are seeking. He went to the United States under the name of Fred Sykes in the 1890s. He married Bridget Taney. They lived in Chicago, Illinois and had four children: James (1900-my grandfather), Mary, Hazel, and Fred. Sometime around 1910 a Mrs. Hamnett arrived at their door. She had come from England to find her husband! Apparently Fred was a bigamist. Eventually Fred and the original Mrs. Hamnett settled in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where they are buried. Could he possibly be your grandfather's brother?
