According to the history "Jacob Hampel 1833 - 1915 and Catherine Gerlach 1826 - 1904: Their Known Descendents Through Their Son, Justice Hampel 1855 - 1922", Jacob was born 19 Mar 1833 in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany. He immigrated to the USA in 1850. His brothers John and Charlie immigrated also. When they immigrated is a mystery. There is no other mention of Charlie. Do not know what port they came through. Do know that Jacob moved near Hazelton, Luzerne County, PA where he met and, in 1854 married Catherine Gerlach. Their first 5 children were born in Hazelton. In 1868, they moved near Streator, LaSalle County, IL. A rock fell on Jacob and cripplfd Jacob. In 1870, Jacob and family moved to Cass County, IA. In the spring of 1878, John and his family joined Jacob in Cass County. Jacob died near Atlantic, Cass County, IA. Jacob was buried in Weirich Cemetery, Lyman, Cass County, IA. Hope this imfo helps. I have extensive histories on both the Hampels and Bosecks. Chuck Gerlach
