further to my memo of November 9,2005.(It is now June 5th
2006), George and Mary Handby's son Joseph Born 1816 had a son
by the name of William born 1838, who looked after Joseph's
children from his 3rd wife Hannah Carter. Those children were
named Handly in the 1881 and 1891 census. Their names were
Percy Handly born 1876,Kenneth Handly Born 1877 and May Handly born 1882(real names Handby of course). By the time Percy
married he had dropped the Percy and became known just as
Brailsford Carter Handley married to Harriett Allen in 1906.
In Australia he was known as Brailsford Carter HANDBY - HIS
REAL NAME -Joseph died in 1890 and William took them to his
home in Hasland Derbyshire.I think William changed their name to Handly to differentiate between the first family and
the 3rd wife's family. As Hannah Carter remarried to George
W. Brook, the boys did not go and live with her, but William
put them into the Industrial boarding school in Chesterfield.
