First Hanlins in America
My dad, Thomas Gordon Hanlin (deceased 1978), in 1973 put together a simple descendancy chart (missing most places, fairly good on dates) beginning with Samuel (b. 1763 in Germany) and Christian Henlein (b. 1766 in Germany). He believed they were the first immigrants of his line. The two Henlein brothers were from the state of Hesse, Germany, thought to have landed at Philadelphia unknown date, moved to Washington Co., Md., vicinity of Hagerstown, married there in the 1780s. From them my father traced five generations from Samuel's descendants, and seven generations of Christian's, who mostly lived in West Virginia (Hardy-Grant Cos.), Maryland, and Pennsylvania. There were Irish Hanlins/Hanlons in Maryland, Pennsylvania and other states at the same time, not our line. I am just starting to work on his project of our German derivation after neglect since his death. My principal interest is in confirming the identity of these two, their ship, and German ascendancy, if anyone can give me a lead. With thanks. Tom Hanlin II (Christian[1], Jonathan[2], David J.[3], John William[4], Thomas Gordon[5], Thomas Gordon II[6].
