Thomas and John Hanratty from Louth

My grandmother Mary Hanratty was born 1872, Townland of Courtbane, Co. Louth. Courtbane is west of Dundalk, close to the border of Armagh. Her parents were Thomas Hanratty and Mary Murtagh. Two of her siblings were twin brothers Tommy and John, born possibly 1874. That is the only date I have in regard to the following. The brothers emigrated to the US, don't know when. As far as I know they lived in NY city. The family story says that John worked for Thomas Edison or one of Edison's companies, he married Maggie Laverty and died late 1950's. Tommy was married to Bridget Macananey, he vanished one night in New York and was never heard from again. I don't know if either of the brothers left decendents. Someone mentioned finding Hanratty's in the 1920 census of New York, I'd like to know if this has been filmed by the LDS and is there a names index, or what is the prefered method of doing a search in this census. And if any of the above sounds familar, I'd very much like to hear from you!!

Thank you,
Colman Ahern,
Berkeley.
