Your email interests me. I may not be able to help you out but, in searching the Ellis Island records, there were a James and Kate hanratty, traveling with my second(?)cousin,
Bernard(Barney)Hughes, on a ship called the Cedric, which departed from Liverpool and arrived in New York on April 15,
1904. They all came from Rathkeelan, Crossmaglen. Barney was related to my father, Felix Hanratty, who came from Rathkeelan, Crossmaglen also. James, a joiner by trade, and Kate, a domestic servant, went to Rochester, N.Y. or Honeoye Falls, which is south of that city, to visit their uncle, Peter Hanratty. Barney, on the other hand, went to Philadelphia to visit his sister, Kate Tumulty. Bob, I suspect a coincidence, but have not been able to link James and Kate with Barney. I'm sure they might been related to each other. Look at the manifest on Ellis Island records.
Barney, in later life, went back to Ireland and operated a public house called the West End Bar in Newry, Northern Ireland. He died in the 70's. I'm aware that there are a lot of Hanrattys in or around the Rochester area as well as in New York and Philadelphia. I know I have relatives there. Would appreciate to hear from you. By the way, Dundalk is about 15 miles from Crossmaglen, and the Hanrattys are everywhere. Take care.
