I'm not sure if there is a connection or not. It seems that my family settled around the Springfield Illinois area some time in the 1840's. I don't know much about my great-grandfather except he was born in Germany in 1838 and came to the U.S. in 1848. Who he traveled with is still unknown . I don't think a 10 year old child would come by himself. Keep me posted if you learn any more.
