Hello Harry

Just came across your message of 2 years ago. My Hanstein family came from Niederurff, Hessen. My great great great grandfather, Christian KnöPfel was born in the village of Gombeth, Hessen and married Elisabetha Hanstein on 1 April 1838. Her parent's were Johann Adam Hanstein 1795/1862 and Anna Catharina Lemmer/Lammer 1794/1847. Elisabetha was born 1817 in Niederurff and died 1852 in Singlis. She had at least one brother Johann or Johannes Hanstein. Not sure if he came to America or not but his son, Nicholas born 1834 came and settled in Scranton, PA. He lived next door to Henry Knoepfel (his cousin). Nicholas and his wife Marie had 11 children - the youngest was Minnie who continued to live in the old Hanstein home in Scranton until her death - at least that is what I have been told.

I would be happy to hear from you.

Don Knoepfel
