HELP! Manda P. Hardage, daughter of Wm. T. Hardage
Hi Hardage Folks,
I'm in need of help to prove or dis-prove my tie-in to the Hardage family. First a little background. This was copied from a book (Letters of Administration 1838-1856Volume II ) in the Clark County, AR Library (haven't authenticated it):
"William Hardage d. intestate 18 Jan 1855. Joseph A. Hardage was granted Letters of Administration 9 Feb 1855. Heirs Martha Hardage, widow; Margaret Catherine, wife of Simon Montgomery Moore; Manda P., wife of B. E. Walker; Sarah Elizabeth, wife of M. Newton Bledsoe; Zachariah W. Hardage, Uriah C. Hardage; Josiah Hardage, William B. Hardage, James M. Hardage, John D. Hardage, Andrew C. Hardage, Richard B. Hardage, Shelton S. Caldwell. Slaves of the estate were sold in Feb. 1860".
You will notice that Manda P. is married to B.E. Walker.
I think B.E. Walker is Bailis E. Walker. I've been told that Bailis Walker died Sept 12, 1857. There is indication that they may have had children before he died, but have found no conclusive proof. (NEED HELP HERE).
Manda P. Walker later married Shelton S. Caldwell (Shelton is also mentioned as an heir in Wm T. Hardage document above. Why ??Not a clue, as the document was dated 9 Feb 1855. Shelton and Manda didn't marry until four years later, 9 June 1859). (Any thoughts why he was in the will? Need help understanding this!)
Clark Co. Marriage Records show:
Caldwell, Shelton S. to Manda P. Walker, 9 June 1859 by K. Martin J. P.Book D pg 112.
1860 Clark co. AR Census shows:

This is the only family that even comes close to being Shelton and Manda Caldwell in Clark Co, AR in 1860. (NEED HELP HERE). Using this census, there is strong indication that Manda P. Walker brought some children into this marriage, possibly four Walker boys. I can't find that Shelton Caldwell was married before, to contribute children to the "ready made" family.
Manda dies in 1869, leaving Shelton with what looks like two
Walker boys, John & Joseph and three younger Caldwell children.

Other folks believe this is the John W. Caldwell-Walker?, older brother of Joseph Caldwell-Walker?.
Walker, John W.7-11-18556-25-1938(didn't find a funeral home record)
Walker, Sarah P.7-11-186211-30-1931( Sarah Porter Mann, dau Phillip Mann & Delithe Griffin

Both John W. Walker and Joseph Walker are in Hot Springs Co, AR. in the 1880 census, married to their respective wifes and have children.

The above Joseph Walker family is mine - Proven. Names his first child Manda. (Coincidence?) Later names his first son,
John (Coincidence?).
To try and make this long story shorter: I want to believe that the Joseph Caldwell listed is actually Joseph Walker,
my great grandfather, but need help in either proving or dis-proving this theory.
It would be a great pleasure to call Manda P. Hardage GGgrandmother, if it can be proven. ANY HELP in the authentication or the refutation of the above information or leads in this regard would be most sincerely appreciated.
Sincerely,
Warren Walker
