My maternal grandfather was William Frederick HARDER and his father was C.F.HARDER (first names not known for sure).
I know little of the history of when they actually arrived here in Victoria, Australia, but my grandfather married a Theresa Ligora Shanahan and set up home first in Kangaroo Flat (near Bendigo) and then at Golden Square, Bendigo. Both are buried in the Kangaroo Flat Cemetery. He died in 1922 and she in 1958. Their only son, William James Carl Harder died in action in WW1 at Ypres, aged just 18 (although his military record shows 20 because he put his age up to enlist). He is buried near Passchendale, Belgium. Their only other child, and my mother, was Ena Mary Harder. I have a suspicion that the family originated from near Mecklenburg and would have arrived in Australia sometime in the mid-1800s.
Would like to hear from anyone who could tell me more of this line of my family.
