Hi Tracey,
My Harfords are from Aston, Birmingham, too.My grandfather, Joseph Phil(l)ip Harford was born in Aston August 26, 1879.He served in the Lancashire Fusiliers (Army) serving in South Africa in the Boer War 1901-1902, and met and married my grandmother in 1909 while serving in Dublin, Ireland. My father Joseph Phillip Harford was born in Dublin in 1910.My aunt, Margaret Mary Harford was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. They emigrated to Toronto, Canada c. 1912/13.When the First World War broke out my grandfather joined the Canadian Expeditionary Forces (Army) serving in France during the war.
I have some letters my grandfather wrote home during World War I as well as two or three written to my grandmother by "Aunt Emily", who was Mrs. Emily Townsend, 10 Court 3 House, Highgate Street, Birmingham during 1914-1918.In a letter dated 1915 she says my grandfather "came too late to see his brother who died last week leaving his wife and three children".
It's not much to go on, but it may be of help to someone.
Do you have any more information about your great great grandparents?
Best wishes,
Wendy Harford
