Shadrack served as a captain in the North Carolina Militia during the Revolution, having led his group, including his brother, Nathan Hargis, in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse against General Cornwallis.For his service, he was allowed to purchase land in Tennessee.His grant was Number 3104, issued 10 July 1788 and entered 28 October 1783,for 2100 acres on both sides of the Lessahatcher River.This river runs from Memphis to Lacamie(?) on the present Route 64 Highway about 65 or 70 miles in length.It crosses Shelby(Memphis), Haywood and Mar? Counties and entered Fayette County. (Page 65 of the North Carolina Grants in Tennessee by Cartwright)
Shadrack's funeral was preached by the Rev. James Claton who used the text of !st Corinthians, verses 1-9
His will read as follows:
In the name of God.Amen.I Shadrach Hargis of Person County, State of North Carolina Being of sound mind and memory Blessed by God, Do make this my last Will and Testament In Manner and form following.That is to say, First my Desire is that all my just debts be paid out of my Estate, Next I do lend to my beloved wife Nancy Hargis the plantation whereon I now live and one feather bed and furniture and one fifth part of the other household and kitchen furniture.Also one Negro woman Lucy and two negro boys Cyris and Ben and Delila Bush during her nonage During her natural life, Also her choice two horses and all the stock of cattle and sheep, two ewes excepted one for Nathan Hargis and the other for Betsey Warsham and the plantation whereon I now live to go to my son Shadrach Hargis and his horse bells and saddle with one cow and calf to be his at the present time together with one bed and furniture and all the remaining part of my personal estate at my wifes death to be sold and equally divided amongst all my children to wit, Polly Burch, Nancy Hudgins heirs, Jean Blackard heirs, Sally Walters, Nathan Hargis, Jonathan Hargis, William Hargis, Betsy Worsham, Frances Wilson heirs, and Shadrach Hargis.One portion to go to each family.And as for the land I purchased in the western country to be equally divided according to contract with Wm.James Robertson seven hundred acres to Robertson and five hundred 12 to my brother Thomas Hargis whenever my heirs gets a lawful title to said land and the balance which is eight hundred and eighty eight acres to be equally divided amongst my four sons to wit Nathan, Jonathan, William and Shadrach Hargis.In consequence of which I do hereby make William Hargis and Nathan Hargis executors of this my last will and testament.In witness whereof I have hereunto let my hand and seal.This twenty fourth day of January in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixteen.Sign and seal in the presence of US.

Richard's will was recorded in Person County 1799-1800.Richard came to old Orange County before the division of the county into four counties, while his son, Oliver, was quite young, and soon after his son, William, was born in Fairfax County, Virginia in 1769.Richard had apparently been here long enough to establish himself as a trustworthy man when in 1772 he was asked to sign a petition for the establishment of a new county - Caswell.
Richard had two children by his first wife, Mary Jones, and eight children by his second, Jeanne "Jane" Jacobs Long.

Will written 30 August 1827; probated 1827, wit. John Moore, Jesse Hargis.According to North Carolina Pension Abstracts of the Soldiers of the Revolutionary War; War of 1812 and Indian Wars Voume 12 by Annie Walker Burns. Abraham inlisted as early as 1777;served as a private in the North Carolina Troops, went to Charleston, SC; was stationed near Halifax, NC; entered north and was in service in Philadelphia at the time of the Battle of Brandywine; was in the battle when General Nash was killed; returned home after service of 2 years and 6 months, during which he was in the battle of Eutaw Springs, and was discharged late in 1781.The names of the officers under whom he served are not stated.
Abraham returned to Caswell County after his service in the Revolution and resided until his death Nov. 2, 1827; he died in Person County.
He married Aug 1, 1782 in Caswell County, NC to Elizabeth Kilgore, who was born in May 1760; they were married by a Baptist minister, with his sister, Elizabeth Hargis present at their wedding.Kindle V. Vanhook of Person County also stated that he was present at their marriage.
Abraham received 225 to 228 acres of land on Red River between St. and Sulphur Creek, p. 86-87, for his service in the Revolution.

Elizabeth's will of 1851 was witnessed by M. G. Thomas and L. H. Moore.The Moore signatures on her will and on Abraham's will, lead this researcher to believe that Elizabeth's maiden name may have been Moore.
