Sgt. Jason Robert Harkins was killed in Iraq on May 6, 2007. Congress recently approved renaming the Cleveland, GA, Post Office in his honor:

"CLEVELAND [Georgia] - The post office building in Cleveland received a new name Sunday as the facility was named in honor of Cleveland native and American hero Sgt. Jason Robert Harkins, who was killed in the war in Iraq in 2007.
Almost 300 people gathered to remember the sacrifice made by Harkins, including some who served with him in Iraq. Cleveland Postmaster Louise Nix said the project of naming the 20-year-old post office in honor of Harkins would not have been possible without the effort of local officials and Congressman Nathan Deal. Nix said it was not a quick process, but worth it. She said, “It’s the least we could do.”
Many of those speaking during the ceremony pointed to the community where Harkins came from and the commitment that the citizens have given to honor him.
Jason’s father Bob Harkins said, “It’s truly an honor to have Jason come from a community like this. Every soldier that goes into battle takes a part of the community with them, his school, his church, his family, his friends. We want you to know that you did a fine job, because he is truly one of America's best."
A portrait of Harkins will also be displayed in the post office as part of his tribute."

OBITUARY:
Barrett Funeral Home of Cleveland, Ga., announces the death of U.S. Army Sgt. Jason Robert Harkins, 25, Fort Lewis, Wash., formerly of Cleveland.
Sgt. Harkins died proudly serving our country in Baghdad, Iraq, on Sunday, May 6, 2007, along with five other men in his platoon.
Born in Fort Campbell, Ky., on Sept. 29, 1981, Sgt. Harkins was a 1999 graduate of Habersham Central High School, served three years in the U.S. Army Reserves and was currently serving with the Striker Brigade, second airborne infantry division based at Fort Lewis, Wash., serving his second tour in Iraq. He received the Bronze Star of valor and the Purple Heart. Sgt. Harkins was a member of the Lake City Community Church in Lakewood, Wash., and was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Donald Harkins.
He is survived by his wife, Emily Renee' Cook Harkins, Tacoma, Wash., formerly of Gadsden; mother and stepfather, Nancy and Allen Fritchey, Cleveland; father and stepmother, Bobby and April Harkins, Cleveland; brothers, Matthew Pete Harkins, Cleveland, and Daniel Howard Harkins, Colorado Springs, Colo.; maternal grandmother, Sue Painter McDonald, Springfield, Maine; maternal grandparents, Weldon and Joy Pardue, Cleveland; paternal grandmother, Norma Messimer, Hogansville, Ga.; step-grandparents, Joye and John Fritchey, Clarkesville, Ga.; step-grandmother, JoAnne Watts, Gadsden; stepsisters, Katie Hicks, Cleveland, Clara Shirley, Alto, Ga., Nicole Lekra, Durango, Colo., Jennifer Fritchey, Orlando, Fla., and Emily Hicks, Cleveland; stepbrother, Scott Hicks, Gadsden; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Concord Baptist Church in Clemont, Ga. The Revs. Allan Morris, Darwood Santmier and Russ Butcher will officiate. Burial in Yonah View Memorial Gardens, Cleveland.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 Thursday night and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all donations be made to the Sgt. Jason Harkins Scholarship Fund, c/o United Community Bank, 153 East Kytle St., Cleveland, GA 30528, to Lake City Community Church, Lakewood, Wash., or to Concord Baptist Church in Clermont.
