HARLEY, Patrick 1840 Cleveland, OH
Posted by: Cheryl Roberts Date: June 25, 2001 at 21:58:42

I'm trying to figure out where my ancestor, Patrick Harley, came from before arriving in Ohio. The earliest record I find for him is the 1840 Census.

According to later census records and death records, he was born circa 1804 in Ireland. His wife, Elizabeth, was born in England circa 1801. Their two children Elizabeth and James (b. 1836/37)were also born in England, according to census records.

Family stories say that our branch of Harleys came from Ireland to Ohio via Canada, but this doesn't jive with what I'm finding in the census data. It looks like there was a detour in England.

Any help would be appreciated.
