A belated message. Joseph Harley, b. 29 October 1823 in Charleston, Suffolk, Massachusetts was the brother of my great-great grandfather and is listed in both the 1860 and 1880 census as living in Lake City, Wabasha, MN. He was the son of Joseph Harley (b. Boston 21Dec1794, d. Charleston 19Dec1876)and Lucinda Gould (b. Lunenburg, MA 17Jul1799, d. Charleston 14Dec1882) both of Charleston, MA. Lucinda and Joseph are both buried in the Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose, Massachusetts.
In 1862 the Wabasha Joseph was 39 so it is not unreasonable to think that this is the Joseph that you are looking for. This Joseph also had a son Joseph H. b. 6 Aug 1853 and shown in the 1860 and 1870 census as living in Lake City. I doubt that they mustered in 9 year olds!

I would be very much interested if any other information that any one would have concerning the Lake City Harley's.
