Sandy, I have done extensive research on my ancestors and filled binders, now I am starting on my husband's Harley line. My husband Phillip is also descended from James Harley born 1782 d. 1831. He married Pegg Roberts. We have a family tree created in 1925 in our possession. According to this tree we have learned the following:
James' father was John Harley d. 1/11/1828 and married Mary Cleland on Christmas, 1774. He was a Captain in the 11th VA Regiment, Company 2, 1777-78.
Going forward in descendants after James Harley in Phillip's line is:
William Roberts Harley - b. 6/4/1809 and d. 4/24/1891. He married Louisa Jane Thompson who was also a direct descendant of a Rev. War soldier named Arthur Bowen in the Va Militia, Washington Co. 1776-7.
Their son James Reece Harley b. 1856 m. Lucy Evelyn Thrower b. 1866. She was from Arkansas.
Their son Ernest Gerald Harley, b. 1897 married Kathrine Overman b. 1888.
Their daughter Mary Louise b. 1920 is Phillip's mother. All this info is on their family tree which goes back to Lord Robert Harley, Earl of Oxford and chancellor of the Exchequer during the reign of Queen Ann. My husband Phillip's Aunt Catherine knows a lot more about our family and is looking for connections to the Harleys. You mentioned that you are related to James Harley also. How are you related and do you have records and stories that you could share with us? We would be most grateful. Please contact me at the above e-mail address. If anyone else on Genforum has info that pertains to this family, please contact me. Best Wishes, Trudi
