OBITUARY:AUGUST, 1946
There passed away at the D.M.Hospital, Bridgewater, on Friday morning, Aug. 29th, after a short illness, one of the town's highly respected citizens, John Robert Harnish.Mr. Harnish was 86 years of age, born December 24, 1860.
His early life was spend at sea.His first voyage was at the age of 12 years.When he became 25 he started as a rigger and learned his trade with Lewis Sponagle.He retired in 1937.
Mr. Harnish served his time as a Fireman in Liverpool in his earlier days.
His wife,the former Katherine Weir predeceased him Dec. 23, 1934.
Surviving are two daughters, (Helen) Mrs. Fred Dowell and Nellie both at home, and two sons, James, as employee at Thompson Bros, and Robert A. an employee at Commercial Marine Co., Gloucester, Mass.A daughter, Maude, predeceased him some years ago. There are also two sisters, Mrs. Mary Teal, Port Medway and Mrs. Laura Munroe, W.P. Rd.
Mr. Harnish had six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Service was conducted at his home on Waterloo St. on Sunday at 2:30 by the Rev. W.J.W. Sweetnam.
The funeral was largely attended by his friends and many of his fellow workers of former years.
The pallbearers were Brenton and Herbert Smith of Bristol and Henry and George Wolfe of Liverpool.Internment was in United Church Cemetery East.

Smith and family, Anchor, fellow workers at Thompson Bros., Basket, Hazel Ferris and family, Friends, Sprays, Bobbie, Arlene and Patsy, Bennie and Ruby; sister Laura, Mildred and Lockie Freeman, Mae and Norman; Clara, Joe and Lawrence; Mr. and Mrs. William Callahan; Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Wolfe and Marion; Commercial Marine Co., Gloucester, Mass., Howard and Emma; Mr. and Mrs. John Payzant and family, Mr. and Mrs. Farish Wolfe; Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Whynot; Donald, Esther and Louise; Thomas Purdy, Mr. and Mrs. William Dauphinee, Douglas and Rose.
