Greetings. It is my first time on this forum. I have an ancestor Herod or Herrod or Harrid Jones whose father was Robert Jones of Stewart Co., TN. Robert came to Stewart Co. about 1806 from NC or VA. I am guessing that his wife's last name was Herrod because of the possibility of this son being named after her surname. Therefore I have searched the Stewart Co. deed records for any Herrods. These records-- which show the presence of a John, a James, and a Thomas Herrod--may be of interest to this forum:
20 Feb 1808 a James Herod witnessed a transfer of land from Wm Crouse to Samuel Curtis-100 acres for $400 on the Sout side of the Cumberland adjoining a big pond below the mouth of Wells Creek. Bk 3, p 204.
19 Sep 1808 a Thomas Herod of Adams Co. and the Natchez Territory sold land on Guices Creek to Elijah Curtis of Stewart Co....Witnessed by John Herod, Samuel Curtis, and Nathaniel Curtis. Bk 3, p129.

Witnesses: Jacob McCARTY, Jas. Tagart, Eliza (Elija?) Curtis, and Nathan Thomas. Bk 4 p. 284. For $200.
On the same day 13 Nov 1811, Christopher Guice of Adams County and the Mississippi Territory conveyed 480 acres , for $440 to Thomas Herod of Franklin Co., Mississippi Territory. Adjoining: James Herods corner.
