Lydia Harrod - Chatham County, NC
Posted by: John Burns (ID *****5671) Date: September 19, 2003 at 05:53:23

By way of introduction, let me first say that I am decended from Rachel Harrod, sister of Col. James Harrod. She married George Newland.

But that is not the reason for this posting. In association with two of my cousins, I am compiling information with the intent of publishing an up-dated book on our Lewter/Luter families.

In the 1850 Census for Chatham County, NC is a Lydia Harrod, age 46 (makes her born ca 1804 in NC). Listed with her are her children: William, age 22; Edmond. age 19; Cathrin, age 15; Martha, age 11; Rose A., age 8. Also living with her is a Milly Lewter, age 68; now, this is Amelia Kelly who married Henry Lewter. Henry died about 1828, in Chatham County. Also, surrounding her residence are other members of the Lewter family, brothers and sister of this Henry Lewter as well as some of his children.

I suspect that this Lydia is a Lewter, being a dau. of Hardy Lewter, (Hardy being the father of Henry) but have no proof of this. Presently I do not know the name of her husband. Which is one of the reasons for this e-mail.

Has anyone, during the course of your research, come across this family? I would like to determine the name of her husband and her maiden name. As well as when and where they were married.

Thanking you in advance for your reply which I hope to receive at your convenience.

John
