John Herod - Mary Devane - of Stafford Co. VA

Seeking information on this couple of Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co. VA. John left a will in 1760 mentioning his wife Mary, his son William, and stepson John Devane. There is a 1764 Overwharton Parish marriage of John Devane to Mary Bridges. William Herod is my ancestor, a Revolutionary War soldier, who moved to Spotsylvania Co. VA in 1792 and then to Smith Co. TN in 1808. He drew a federal Rev. War pension before his death on 4 March 1836. He was supposed to have been a "handyman" for George Washington. ???? His wife's maiden name may have been Valentine.

Was John Herod (will of 1760) also the John Harrod, born 14 April 1727 in Stafford Co. VA, the son of John Herod and Caroline Downey???? Did he serve with Washington in the French and Indian War?

I'm trying to piece this all together.

Any help appreciated!
