Sidney Harshaw was my ggg grandfather. After my grandmother died we found a letter from a gentleman to his sisters, who were Sidney's daughters. Now this gets interesting because Sidney never had a son with his wife. The author of the letter indicates that he feels abandoned and abused by his sisters because of his lineage.I have a feeling that this gentleman may be Sidney's son with a slave.I have tried to track down information without much success. From the letter I was able to figure out from the date that the brother left Union County, GA after his father's death. He states in the letter that that was the only option open to him due to his sister's behavior towards him.The family oral history tradition is that Sidney was not a nice man.So it stands to reason that his son was shielded from his sisters during his father's life and that the death of his father ended any truces.I don't know if this will be helpful to you but it is the only info I have relating to the Harshaws and slavery.
