George Hartsfield, Sr. (about 1735 to 1789) facts:
--31 May 1751 - served a day as a chain man on a survey crew on Crooked Creek, Granville County, North Carolina (now Franklin County near Bunn).Andrew Hartsfield (1713 to 1761) lived on the same creek and was probably George's uncle.(Andrew was probably born in Pennsauken, New Jersey on land originally granted to his grandfather, John Walker).
--1755-mustered into Simon Herring's Company of Militia in Johnston County, North Carolina.
--1750s-Archibald Mackilroy sold land in Johnston County (now Lenoir County), North Carolina to George.Archibald Mackilroy had land holdings along the lower reaches of Falling Creek, about 6 miles west of Kinston.
--12 August 1767-sold some slaves in Craven County, South Carolina where he resided.
--5 November 1771 land warrant, 28 November 1771 land survey, 6 April 1773 survey entered, 18 May 1773 land grant, 8 September 1773 land memorial for 100 acres on the southwest side of the Little Pee Dee River in Craven County (now Marion County), South Carolina.
--February 1789-died in Richmond County, Georgia (probably now Columbia County).Administrator's bond granted to John Hartsfield and Anna Powers on 21 March 1789.
George's father was most likely John Hartsfield.John was probably born about 1712 to Godfrey and Catherine (Walker) Hartsfield.Godfrey moved his family to Philadelphia in 1714 and then appeared in Baltimore and Cecil Counties, Maryland in the 1720s.The area lies along the Pennsylvania/Maryland boundary where it crosses the Susquehanna River and may actually now be in Pennsylvania since a boundary adjustment of 6 miles to the south in the 1730s.
I know nothing of the Hartsfield Family whereabouts from the 1720s until they appear in North Carolina in the late 1740s.George was probably born in the mid 1730s as he was probably in his mid teens when he served on the survey crew in 1751 and in his late teens when he was mustered into the militia in 1755.
George probably had the following children:
--Reuben (born in the mid 1750s, probably near Falling Creek in modern Lenoir County, North Carolina).
--Anna (was Mrs. Powers in the 1789 administration of George's estate).
--George (born by 1763, either in modern Lenoir County, North Carolina or modern Marion County, South Carolina).
--John (born about 1764, probably in what is now Marion County, South Carolina).
--Asa (born about 1771, in modern Marion County, South Carolina).
