Hi Martin,
Unfortunately I know absolutely nothing about this side of the family, I can't even get started.I only know that my father's father was called Thomas because I was told as a child. My father died when I was a child and all my other relatives are now long gone.
I'm 51 and only got the 'family history bug' a few months ago.If I had discovered how much fun it was years ago then I could have asked people before they all died on me.Never mind.I'm doing amazingly well with my mother's side but my Dad has drawn a blank.
As far as I know my family have never lived in Croydon.I was brought up in Hook, Chessington, Surrey.I lived there from my birth in 1951.They moved there about 1949 from Tolworth, Surrey. My mother's family come from Hampshire originally. My dad did have some connections with Hampshire I believe, but he was brought up in Hindhead or Grayshott in Surrey just over the border from Hampshire. From about the age of five when Thomas left he lived with a Mrs Scott who was, I believe, his aunt. His mother was still alive but for some reason he didn't live with her. That is all I have.Oh yes, he served with the royal engineers in the war.
Thanks anyway for taking the time to answer.
Sandra
