Hi Judy,
After researching several Carbon County PA cemetaries I have some info for you! I hope it helps.
Catherine Barbara(nee Clader) Hartz was married to Peter. They had a son Johannes Jacob Hartz, their 4th child born April 17, 1773 In Salisbury Township, Northampton Co. Pa. He married Barbara Levan in Exeter Twp, Berks Co. Pa on March 25 1798. About 1805 Jacob moved his family from Berks Co. north to the sparsely settled Quakake Valley. Not long after he became known as "Col Jacob Hartz" most likely serving in the War of 1812. There was a Jacob Hartz who served in the 71 Regiment, Hutter's Pa Militia and this was most likely him.He was a clockmaker by trade and upon arriving at the Quakake Valley, he built the 1st hotel, The Spring Mtn Hotel, located along the north side of the valley. He later sold it and built another hotel and tavern, the White Swan, at the south side at the base of the Broad Mountain. The village that sprung up around this hotel became known as Hartz Station. Later it was changed to Hudsondale in honor of Samuel Hudson. In 1829 Jacob ran for and was elected Sheriff of Northampton Co. of which the Quakake Valley and all of Carbon County was then a part. After Jacobs death March 30 1848 his sons Jonas and William continued to run the White Swan for many years. Levi and Peter Hartz, both sons of Jonas, later conducted hotels in Packer Twsp and Weatherly.
You need to look in the cemetaries of Carbon County to find any other info. Type in Hartz/Hudsondale Cemetary at Hudsondale, Carbon Co. Pa.
BEST OF LUCK on your search! this cemetary is on Privately owned property, which I have recently located and gained permission to visit and photograph. Perhaps I will find more of your relatives there and be able to document the grave markers...
