OUr original ancestor was Hans Jury Hartz who came from the Palatine area of Germany in the 1740's. I know that our direct ancestor was baptized in New York City in the late 1750's. Our ancestor Barnard Hartz also went by Barnabus Hart and was a Loyalist and ended up in Cornwall Ontario. I haven't found out what happened to Hans or whether or not there were siblings. It is possible that the Hartz family spread itself out throughout New York State.
One of the GGGG grandfather's was called Herman (Barnard's son)The family seemed to repeat names frequently in the different generations.
