Seven Hartz Brothers...

Am just starting to trace family roots and have been told by relatives that my family name of Hart was changed from the German "Hartz" by seven Jewish brothers who emigrated to America. My grandfather was Marcellus Hart(b.1890's)who lived at one time around Gay, WV. Anybody know anything?
