Hartzog/Hertzell information needed

I am a descendant of Hartzogs/Hertzell, and am looking for more information on my family.

This is what I know...My mother, Joan Elizabeth Hartzog Webb, who is now deceased, was born in Jersey City. She had three sisters and two brothers.

My mother's parents were William and Rosa Lillian Victoria Hartzog. And William's parents were Alice (Attaberry)and John Hartzog/Hertzell. From what I was told, John was an orphan from Germany and was first adopted by the Hertzell family and then later the Hartzog family. Alice and John had about 7 or 9 children. And my grandfather, William, was one of the older children. There was just one daughter and her name was Gertrude and she was the youngest. My grandfather was born, I believe in South Carolina (Orangeburg area).

My grandmother (Rosa Lillian Victoria Hartzog) parent's were Charles and Rosa (Belcher) Hartzog. They were also born in South Carolina and had about seven children. Charles and Rosa moved to St. Augustine, Florida and then to New Jersey where they remained until they died. However, they're children settled in various parts of the US including Louisiana, California, New Jersey, etc. From what I am told Charles Hartzog's mother was a Cherokee Indian named Keziah and I think that his father's name was Charles...

Any further information on the Hartzog/Hertzell line would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Natalie Webb
