I strongly believe that Martha Ann Hartzog Blakey is the child of John and Celia Mitchell. George H Hartzog was married twice - first to Sarah Tyler (no proof on her maiden name)and then to Celia (no proof on her maiden name.) The following is a transcript of the entry for Martha Mitchell.

1850 Barbour Co., AL census, page 134, number 379
Mitchell, Celia 39 f, SC
Mitchell, Eliza 14 f, GA ( This is Elizabeth Hartzog who m. Zachariah Benefield the next year)
(Why she and Wm. below are listed Mitchell - I do not know.)
Mitchell,William 10 m, AL (Wm's family says he was born Apr 27, 1837)
Mitchell, Martha 8 f, AL (This would mean 1842, but could it really be 1843-when her mother married John Mitchell? Her birth is not 1837, though.)
Mitchell, Mary 7 f, AL
Mitchell, Hiram 5 m, AL
Mitchell, Julia A. 3/12 f, AL

With William Henry Hartzog's birth on 27 Apr 1837, it would be impossible for the birth of another child in 1837.

There is a hard copy of my book in the Enterprise, Alabama Library.

Virginia
