I am glad to see they honored my request to post our forum. My family is from Ashe County, North Carolina. My grandfathers name was Robert Hartsoe. Part of our families use the name Hartsog. For any of those who do not know, Hartzog, along with other spellings means "Duke or Leader of armies". Their is a group of Hartzogs in the Idlewild community of Ashe County. Some of them are a distant line of relatives. Does anyone know the most original or earliest spelling of the name?
