If Hester was living in 1940, you can go on line to the state where she died and get a death certificate which should tell her parent's names and where they were born. You probably can go on line to NC.gov and look for form for a certificate of death which you will then send to the state archives for a DC. It will cost a small fee.

I collect all Harwell/etc info. I am not a direct kin to your Rebecca but I am interested in trying to connect her to the early VA Harwell family.

Death Certificates were required after 1913.
