I have been researching one line of my family: The Harvey's---Knox Tennessee to Callaway County Missouri.
The Tradition is that Samuel P. Harvey married Ellen Margaret Horton and lived in Knox County Tennessee.
I have not been able to find concrete evidence that this is so. I have found that a Samuel Harvey married a Mahala Falkner in August 1834 in Knox County Tennessee.
I have some real doubts. In the 1830 Tennessee Census there are only two possible Horton Families. They are living in the West and Central part of the State. Ellen Margaret claims of the 1889 Census that she and her parents were born in Tennessee.
Here are some possibilities for the solving the problem:
1. Samuel did really marry Ellen and the records are lost.
2. Samuel did reall marry Ellen and I have not yet viewed the record.
3. Samuel did realy marry Mahala Falkner. She changed her name to Ellen Margaret for ethnic reasons.
Does anyone have concrete proof that Ellen Margaret Horton married Samuel?
Any help would be of great help.
