Oh Dennis, How I wish it would be the same one, but I'm afraid not. My husband's family tradition says that this Charles Harvey was born in New York, and was serving in the Civil War when his daughter Elizabeth Serilda Jane Harvey was born on 8 Jan 1865 in Carbondale, Jackson, IL. The story goes that he came home and saw her once, but returning to his unit was killed. There doesn't seem to be a record of his death that I can find, so I don't know if he was killed in a battle or just during the time of the Civil War as he returned. The story goes that it was IN the Civil War, but you know how that goes. I found one record of one daughter that said he was born in IL, but everything else has given his birth as "New York", so I think that is pretty strong.

There was an earlier child born to this couple (Charles Harvey and Lavinia P Back) in Stoddard County Missouri in Oct 1863, and Charles Harvey's in-laws were in Stoddard County. I don't know how Charles and family happened to be in IL. The wife and daughters moved to Jackson County Arkansas.

I post here every few years hoping someone will recognize our Charles. Thanks for answering. Carol
