My maiden name is HARVEY and I'm working on the connection to the Giffin line in PA, in hopes of tracing the Harveys out of Washington Co, PA back to where they came from.
Wm HARVEY, b ca 1753; d 21 Oct 1821 Washington Co, PA; bur Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Washington Co, PA. There is a metal medallion next to his headstone noting Rev War.
Two of his daughters married Giffins. Mary HARVEY md Andrew GIFFIN III. From online sources (not sure how accurate) his father Andrew GIFFIN II md Jane HARVEY, and his father Andrew GIFFIN I md Agnes Nesbit.
Andrew GIFFIN II b ca 1752, was in Washington Co, PA, also, and is buried in neighboring Allegheny Co, PA in the Robinson Run Cemetery. He too has a Rev War metal marker next to his headstone.
A friend looked for DAR records for Wm and Andrew, but couldn't find anyone going in on Wm HARVEY. Since Wm and Andrew were about the same age, I thought they might have fought in the same company. A digitized book on the history of the Giffin family on the FHL catalog gave a paragraph on Rev Rec for Andrew. I went to the American Rev forum on GenForum, did a search for names of some of the officers and found listed as privates --Henderson HARVEY, James HARVEY and William HARVEY, Cumberland Co, PA militia.
On the Harvey forum someone says the three above, plus a Charles HARVEY, are possible brothers.
Do you have any suggestions???? I will be in SLC next April and plan on working on this HARVEY and GIFFIN information, glad to share anything I might find.
Happy Hunting (^_^)
