COTTAGE GROVE/MADISON, WISCONSIN - Virginia M. Utter (nee Hatch), age 85, of Madison, passed away unexpectedly, on Monday, Oct. 30, 2006. She was born on June 16, 1921, in Spencer, Iowa, to Otto Leon Hatch and Altamae (Elwood) Hatch. Virginia graduated from Madison East High School in 1939. She married Elmer Utter on Jan. 31, 1940, in Madison. Virginia enjoyed working at The East Side Print Shop. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ. Virginia was a past president and very involved with TOPS Inc. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and her dog, Gunner. Virginia is survived by her children, Fred Utter of Chandler, Ariz., Peggy (Philip) Croom of Sun Prairie, Bonnie (Ted) Peterson of Waunakee, Jean Swalheim of Madison, and Clair "Bud" (Jackie) Utter of McFarland; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a daughter, Alice; and brother, Loren. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Wolf presiding. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006.
