HATCH, brother of W.W. HATCH, of this city, had been shot by the miners. Another dispatch received at 8:15 last evening by J.H. O'BRIEN said: "HATCH is not expected to live. Jim BENNETT is shot; they are watching for STEINBERGER." W.W. HATCH and Dr. HUDSON left this city about 6 o'clock last evening for Sutter Creek to see and render all possible aid to the wounded man. E.E. HATCH was formerly a resident of Stockton, but for several years past has been a resident of Sutter Creek, and has for some time been book-keeper of the Amador Mine. >>Thursday, 27 July 1871<< DEAD -- Dispatches printed in another column state that E.E. HATCH, bookkeeper of the Amador, supposed to have been accidentally shot by BENNETT, is still living, but little hope is entertained of his recovery. From Jackson, July 26 -- No further disturbances were made by the Leaguers last night. All had left again by this morning. J.W. BENNETT also left during the night for some place unknown. Both the wounded men, McMENOMY and E.E. HATCH, died this evening. >>Friday, 28 July 1871<< AT HALF-MAST -- The flag on Odd Fellows' Hall waved at half-mast yesterday, in respect of E.E. HATCH, who died at Sutter Creek on Wednesday evening. July 26th. Deceased was a member of Charity Lodge No. 5, of this city. >>Saturday, 29 July 1871<< DISPATCHES -- From Sutter Creek, July 28 -- -The funeral of Hugh McMENOMY took place yesterday afternoon. It was largely attended by members of the Miners' League and friends of the deceased. The town is full of miners. Last evening tranquility and order prevailed. -The Odd Fellows, accompanied by a large number of the friends of the late E.E. HATCH, are now escorting his remains to Sutter Creek Cemetery. >>Monday, 31 July 1871<< DIED -- at Sutter Creek, July 26th, E.W. HATCH, aged 31 years. THE LATE E.W. HATCH -- Edward White HATCH, who was shot and mortally wounded at Sutter Creek, Amador county, on the evening of July 24th, and who died on the evening of the 26th from the effects of the wound, was buried in the Sutter Creek Cemetery on Friday, 28th instant. The funeral was conducted by the members of Sutter Creek Lodge, and was attended by about 150 Odd Fellows and a large number of other citizens. Deceased was a native of Woodstock, Vermont, where his father, mother and 3 sisters still reside. He came to California in 1859, and first settled in Stockton, where he engaged in business and resided until 1865, when he went to Sutter Creek and associated himself with Kelly Bros. in the butchering business, and continued in that occupation until sometime in March, 1869, when he became bookkeeper for the owners of the Amador mine, which position he held up to the time of this death. Mr. HATCH married at Sutter Creek 5 years ago, and leaves a widow, but no children. He was a member of Charity Lodge No. 6, IOOF, in this city [Stockton]. His age was 31 years and about 5 months. He was a brother to W.W. HATCH of this city, and has 1 sister -- Mrs. RAYMOND -- residing in San Francisco and 2 brothers, G.H. & F.L. HATCH, former residents of Stockton now residents of the State of Nevada. Deceased was a man of the most sterling integrity, and one who possessed considerable business activity and great force of character. He was held in high esteem wherever known, and his death was deeply deplored by large circles of friends in both San Joaquin and Amador counties. Notify Administrator about this message?
