International Genealogy records indicate my family tree. I am Travis Hatt, son of John Hatt straight from the border between where Germany and Switzerland used to be. I am guessing that you used to be a Carrol Hatt. If I have time I will see if that name is registered in any trees. Since I posted on the genealogy forum I found that the records somewhere did indicate a Donald Hatt, who had a son Tim Hatt and daughter Christine in New Jersey. Can you verify this? Where did you grow up?
My family tree has around 100 members in the UK, America, Canada,
Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Denmark, Sweden, Spain. The
object of
the Society is to exchange information on the name between members.
You asked about the origins of the name Hatt. it is probable that the
name is
Scandinavian or Viking in origin, and can be found in the northern
European
countries going back as far as records were kept. This distribution
appears
to support the Viking origins of the name. In the UKit is one of the
oldest
surnames, appearing before it was usual for people to have surnames,
and
appears to have originated in the Uk in two centres, one in the Thames
Valley, the other in Aberdeen in Scotland.
