Hatty Family Genealogy Forum

My last name is supposed to be Hatty (or Hattey, as some people spell it). I was born in Detroit, as was my Dad, but his parents were born in Lebanon. The families are members of the Kniewer club, and we used to have large family picnics at Stony Creek Metropark.
My grandparents (Situ and Jidu) came to the US around the 1910's. When they came across the border, the border bureaucrats asked my grandfather his name. As is traditional in middle-eastern families, my grandfather answered that his name was Hana Hatty, son of (as many generations as it takes before the person to whom you are speaking seems to recognize what family you came from)---Danyen. That made him John Hatt(e)y Daniel. My grandmother became Susanne Daniel.
When my grandparents came to the US, they settled in Wheeling, WV like many other Lebanese families. We are related to lots of folks with first names as last names such as Elias, Hatty, Daniel, Thomas, Joseph, Solomon, etc., as well as by marriage of my aunts to the Andarys and Naseefs. My grandfather also had a brother living in Sao Paulo, Brazil (he had a leather business there) and cousins in Lebanon and Adelaide, Australia. My grandfather moved to Detroit to take advantage of the booming economy generated by Henry Ford paying $5 per day.
I am guessing you and I are related because of the information you have already posted. Are you related to Mae Hatty? She is one of my dad's cousins.
