Jacob Houser/Hooser/Hauser of TN and IL (d. 1830s or 40s ?)
Hello all:
I greatly respect and appreciate the task of discerning the ancestry of our kinfolk!I am pulling my hair out (and, believe me, there isn't much left).
Here is what I know:
My 3rd g-grandfather, Ambrose Hooser, was born (I think) in 1805 in Sumner County, TN.He later removed with his family to Madison County, IL (1830 census). His father was Jacob Hooser/Houser.From a death certificate for Ambrose's brother, also named Jacob (b. 1807), he states his parent's name as Jacob Hooser and Catherine Rule.I found a marriage record for Jacob Houser and Catherine Rule on 16 August 1803 in Hardy County, Virginia. So the dates clearly fit.
Catherine Rule was the daughter of Henry Rule / Ruyle who lived in Sumner County, TN for a time and died in 1840 in Madison County, Illinois. One internet researcher states that Jacob and Catherine Hooser/Houser died in Sangamon County, Illinois. But I have no idea when, or if this is the actual location of their deaths.
This is essentially all that I have. Can anyone out there help me out on finding any more information about the ancestry of Jacob Houser and Catherine Rule?I also need more info on the children that they had.Ambrose tried to make a go of it in Wisconsin (1840 census) but moved back to Illinois where he died (I think) before 1850, although another researcher has him dying in 1870.My reasoning is that Phoebe Hooser, Ambrose's wife, was living with their son in 1850.No other Ambrose mentioned in the census beyond that (OK, an Ambrose Hooser, b. 1838 living in another household in 1850 in Madison County - a son perhaps; if so why is he not living with his mother and older brother?)
Anyway, any info on this family and their ancestors or descendents is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your answers.
