You also might be interested in knowing what happened to Adam Hawkes' second wife, Sarah Hooper. She was quite young when Adam Hawkes married her, and his estate left little to her after his death.
She remarried after Adam Hawkes died to a man named Samuel Wardwell. She had several children from her second marriage. But both Sarah Hooper and Samuel Wardwell were among those who were accused in the Salem Witchcraft Hysteria of 1692 of practicing witchcraft. Both were convicted, and Wardwell was hung from the gallows outside of Salem.
As was the custom of the times, those who "confessed" to practicing witchcraft were dealt with less severely. Sarah Hooper hoping to save herself, testified against Wardwell. Sarah Hooper was also convicted, but she was not hung and she was sentenced to imprisonment in a dank 17th century prison.
Of course, neither of them were witches.
